General Activities conducted by club members
(These may consist of individual member projects or involve all members collectively)
Ongoing Activities
The rebuilding and upgrading of the Clubs premises is a long term project, many hours are spent by our volunteers on this tedious but gratifying exercise. A new workshop and meeting room have recently been completed, as well as work on our Office / Amateur TV Room.
Amateur Radio Classes
Members learn about; Electricity, Batteries, Circuits, Radio, Television, Antennas, Digital devices, AM, FM, Sattelites, Receivers, Transmitters, Computers, Internet, etc.
Visits
Visits are conducted on a regular basis to places of interest, such as; Deakin University, Computer facilities, local and Melbourne radio and TV stations, ARMY and AIR FORCE facilities, Amateur Radio Stations. Local Industries e.g. SHELL, FORD MOTOR co., ALCOA, Geelong Advertiser, Police, Fire Brigade, and Ambulance stations.
Displays
Displays are held on open days or special occasions such as the Geelong Show (Photo) and when requested by organizers of special events. The next event TBA.
Bronze Award
A Bronze award will be issued by the Geelong Radio and Electronics Society to any eligible Amateur Radio Operator who Contacts a number of G.R.E.S. Members by Radio.
The following conditions will apply to be eligible for the Award. 30 points are required and these will be awarded as follows.
For fixed G.R.E.S. Members:
- 1 point for a contact to a fixed G.R.E.S. Member station on 144 Mhz and above.
- 2 points for all contacts to a fixed G.R.E.S. Member station below 144 Mhz.
- 2 points for a contact to a Mobile or Portable G.R.E.S. Member station or whilst being a Portable or Mobile station yourself on 144 Mhz and above.
- 4 points for all contacts to a Mobile or Portable G.R.E.S. Member station or whilst being a Portable or Mobile station yourself below 144 Mhz.
For fixed non G.R.E.S. Members:
- 2 point for a contact to a fixed G.R.E.S. Member station on 144 Mhz and above.
- 4 points for all contacts to a fixed G.R.E.S. Member station below 144 Mhz.
- 4 points for a contact to a Mobile or Portable G.R.E.S. Member station whilst being a fixed or Portable or Mobile station yourself on 144 Mhz and above.
- 6 points for all contacts to a Mobile or Portable G.R.E.S. Member station whilst being a fixed or Portable or Mobile station yourself below 144 Mhz.
The use of Repeaters and IRLP is accepted for scoring points.
Any G.R.E.S. Member may only be contacted once for the purpose of scoring point for the award.
Log book entrance or QSL conformation from G.R.E.S. Members is required by the award manager before the award can be issued.
Certificates will be handed out, free of charge at the weekly meetings or posted to any Individual or Club location at postage cost.
